L.A. Noire gets ‘M’ for Mature US rating.

LA Noire 2

As it probably won’t surprise you to learn, Rockstar’s latest game L.A. Noire gets an M for Mature rating for the US. The day after the BBFC gave it an 18 rating for UK release. But the ESRB who decides on the US rating has let a few spoilers slip through their report.

Be warned, if you want to stay completely in the dark about the game, GO NO FURTHER!

So the ESRB have told us a few obvious truths that we already know. It’s an “’open-world’ action-adventure game”, you play as Cole Phelps, a new police detective at the LAPD in the late 1940s and you’re tracking down a serial killer.

But the report also goes on to show how graphic the game is with realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood. Lots of blood. Including spurts of blood that stain the characters and the environment. You also get to see the victims bodies close up, including their unfortunate demise and previously attached limbs. This is certainly no CSI or Castle for light Sunday evening viewing.

There are also the usual obscenities, foul language, drug use and abuse but also sexual assault and an implication of paedophilia as well as full female nudity with some of the cut-scene sequences of corpses.

One thing is for sure. This is going to be one of the most adult, girtty and mature game that Rockstar have produced in terms of story and narrative. This won’t be for the faint of heart.
