This Week On The NewsWire – 3rd June 2011
Well this week has sure been a busy one if you're fans of the biggest-selling three words in gaming: Call Of Duty. For the past seven days the gaming press has been buzzing with talk of another word to add to those three: Elite. What is it? How does it add to the experience? A monthly fee?!? Surely not?! Well alongside bringing you all the facts on that as well as our upcoming opinions on the matter, this week was also filled with other stories on some major franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Gears Of War, new kid on the block LA Noire and the man you can always bet on: Duke Nukem.
Here's our rundown of the biggest stories of this week...
- First up was a much more solid video reveal of the next title in the Assassin's Creed series, entitled "Revelations"
- See? We weren't lying after all! Next came the single-player trailer for the surely HUGE Gears Of War 3
- Then it happened, the first bits of information on Call Of Duty: Elite were revealed through that most trusted of gaming sources...The Wall Street Journal?!?
- The full list (for now) of LA Noire DLC was revealed, along with a method of buying them all 50% cheaper!
- Back to Gears Of War for a bit now as some frankly terrifying stats for the beta were released
- We liked Metro 2033 a lot and thought it was rather unfairly overlooked by the wider gaming public. Well guess what? There's a sequel in the works! With a trailer too!
- XG247 loves DiRT3! Do you? Do you also have lots of money? Then buy these seats!
- The makers of Brink detailed the free DLC that will soon be appearing for the online shooter...but will it be enough to turn things around for this struggling title?
- Call Of Duty: Elite (CoDE for short, don't you know?) was confusing gamers of the world through sketchy details last week...including us. Maybe the trailer will help?
- More DiRT 3 info came as the first set of DLC was unveiled, this one helping a worthy cause indeed
- Carmageddon? Is....back?! Surely not?! Sweet!
- Hacker group LulzSec announced via Twitter that they'd be publishing all of the information that they claim to have stolen from the servers at Sony
- After more time than it took to fight and conclude two world wars, it's FINALLY happening...here's the launch trailer for (would you believe it?!) Duke Nukem Forever!
- As PSN fully kicked back into life around the world, users finally logging back in were greeted with a nice surprise...a demo for inFAMOUS 2 ready and waiting for download
- Age Of Empires Online finally got a release date...with a trailer to boot!
- Well, the proof was in the pudding as LulzSec did what they promised and published over 1,000,000 unencrypted user details onto the web. Turns out there was nothing regarding PSN in the collection but still...scary stuff!
- In possibly the best news that Alex has had this week, it was also confirmed by Konami that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be sneaking onto consoles this year!
- If you like freaky-deaky, scary entertainment then rejoice! A new trailer for Alice: Madness Returns came down the rabbit hole to us
- Staying on the scary theme, this week also saw an announcement for a special pre-order edition of holiday-ruining zombie title: Dead Island
Phew! What a week once again! The XG247 team will be heading out to enjoy a rare bit of sunshine this weekend and indulging in the usual capers that the outside world brings! Have a great weekend!
