Microsoft releases Xbox 360 Wireless Racing controller
Microsoft has just released news and images of their latest gaming innovation, a controller specifically designed for racing games. It's called the Wireless Speed Wheel, (despite the fact the controller is, demonstrably, not wheel shaped) and Microsoft claims it "balances the realism of a wheel with the feel of a controller for greater user edge in game play".
The controller is completely wireless and features many of the standard Xbox controller triggers and buttons, although it seems the 'bumper' buttons have been omitted. Generally it appears the right and left triggers will be used for acceleration and braking while other specific functions will utilise the ABXY and D-pad buttons. It also features rumble feedback and green bands of lights to provide visual cues.
Microsoft claim it is compatible with all Xbox 360 racing games 'right out of the box', although there may be limited functionality with some titles. Forza Motorsport is particularly highlighted by Microsoft as a title the Speed Wheel would be ideal for.
The controller will retail for £44.99 when it is released in early October.
