Gamestop does not expect next-gen console launch until 2014
According to US research group Baird, Gamestop executives have made comments concerning their expectations for the future of the console market.
At a recent inventors meeting they commented on the possible Xbox 720 and PS4, stating:
“Management does not expect new hardware consoles from Microsoft and Sony until 2014; however, a successful launch of Nintendo’s Wii U in 2012 could add pressure to accelerate a hardware refresh."
They were also optimistic of the soon to be released Playstation Vita:
“GameStop is also upbeat on the coming launch of Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld gaming device, which has a $249 price-point within the reach of many gamers."
While they also suggested that sales of the Kinect may be hampered by a lack of supported software:
“As for the motion controller launched a year ago, management indicated more software is needed to maintain sales momentum.”
Microsoft have stated they intend to triple the amount of titles which support the Kinect.
