"I was really nervous when I approached Dead Island, I’d heard a lot of good things, but I’ve always had doubts about it. Before I saw any gameplay I was one of many who jumped to the conclusion that this was going to be a Left 4 Dead rip off or a Dead Rising wannabe. I’m glad to report this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Dead Island drops you into the middle of a shitstorm and points you towards safety with a knowing smirk. It knows you’re going to look around before heading towards your safety blanket and other games would reward you for looking around with health and cuddles. Dead Island lures you towards an item you might want, throws some zombies in your way then pisses on your limping protagonist by giving you a shit weapon. The 30 second adventure you had, the fact you had to fight tooth and nail to survive, the adrenaline rush – they are your reward. I’ll take that over cuddles and bandages any day."
