id: Rage too much for the Wii to handle.
In an interview with IGN, Todd Hollenshead of id Software announced there is no plans to release RAGE on the Wii.
The main reason, Hollenshead stated, was that the Wii would be unable to fully support the new id Tech 5 engine. He explained:
"For RAGE, as much as Nintendo might not like to hear this, id Tech 5 is too much tech for the Wii. We're not doing a crappy version of RAGE on the Wii. If you play the PC, the PS3, the 360 version, you get all of it. All the media's the same. We didn't make the crippled version that somebody wishes they had some other platform to play on."
When quizzed about the Nintendo's next console, the Wii U, he was more optimistic. However, although the Wii U will be Nintendo's first console to support HD graphics, Hollenshead was still dubious as to its full capabilities as well as Nintendo's audience.
"From what Nintendo is saying, it looks interesting, but it still remains to be seen how it fits within how id Tech 5 would run on it, is the audience right for us to develop games on that platform."
RAGE will release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in October 2011.
