XG 24/7′s Top 5 Kinect Games We’re Looking Forward To.
It’s been almost one year since the ability to make a fool of yourself in your front room without a controller came into our lives. The Kinect has had some detractors but certainly some fans. Super hit Child of Eden hit a mark but left us hungry. Fitness Evolved gave us another excuse not to go to the gym, and Kinect Fruit Ninja is a purchase you should have already made. So here, with Xbox Live Arcade in the mix, are XG 24/7’s top five games that we’re looking forward to for the Kinect.
Kinect Sports Season 2
This game is fun. That is the recipe for success right? Kinect Sports 1, while also fun, really didn’t have the most amusing games. Especially when compared to its earlier brethren Wii Sports. But Season 2 has got a lot of fun ahead of it. Golf brings back some of the competitiveness that the aforementioned Wii did so well, the quirky features including holding your hand up to see into the distance really get some camaraderie going between you and your opponent… Or your cat.
The rest however is just as fun. Darts is extremely accurate with the finger recognition (of course you need to get the hand of it, but it’s rewarding when you do) and the Skiing is also good fun. I am really looking forward to the only thing that I haven’t seen yet, which is American Football. If they get this to be fun (and not too easy) then this could show EA what the possibilities are for Madden. So this is a great test. But the game is a definite party/student house/family game. Get it.
Project Draco
This game has been flirting with us for a few years from being shown at the Tokyo Games Show. We however have played it. This Arcade game is easy to pick up and play, having the same control mechanism as Child of Eden. To me, I haven’t had this much third person flying/shooting fun since I sank well over £10 into a Space Harrier 2 arcade game… What? £10 was a lot of money once!
So other than embarrassing myself by shouting “Get Ready!” before playing, this game plays really well too. Easy weapons, easy aim, great graphics and a relatively awesome story involving the co-existence of humans and dragons. This time though, you don’t need to get everything musically in time or anything, it’s a great point and shoot game but with your hands. Plus, you can download it so you don’t even need to leave your Xbox for very long either.
Kinect Disneyland Adventures
So I’ve been pretty happy with this game so far and with it nearly in my hands, I’m more excited than the kids on the adverts. This game is just going to be fun! Walking around Disneyland with awesome mini-games and, cel-shaded classic characters and a huge realistic theme park is just a recipe for awesome.
Admittedly, I, and possibly most people who read this site, am not the target audience for this game. And it will be known as a guilty pleasure unless you have a child, or cousins, or regularly entertain men who secretly want to get their girlfriends into a game that doesn’t involve fitness. But I can proudly state that there will be no shame in XG 24/7 Towers when we all stand around in awe of this game, before fighting over which ride we want to go on.
Dance Central 2
Here’s the thing with Dance Central. It’s made by Harmonix. Therefore I enjoy it. I am a fan of Rock Band, and the best thing about that series over its rivals is the ability to export all your tracks into the new game. The same can be said of Dance Central. With all the tracks from the first game (improved to combine the new features of the second) and all the downloadable content, this is going to be the biggest dance game yet.
Now, unless you live in a house with mixed sexes or a group of performing arts students, this may not appeal to you. But the game is fun as it’s easy to just get into and not difficult to play. Plus I can give you 2000 reasons per day to get into having a little jiggle at your convenience… Calories that is. 2000 Calories.
Kinect Star Wars
We’d be lying if we said we weren’t looking forward to it. Ok we’ve had a lot of mixed reports and mixed emotions about this from what little we’ve played and at the moment the game is bugged, not very good at recognising your commands and not that fun to play. But as it has been rightly put back a bit, there is ample opportunity to make it awesome.
This time, other than a quick Jedi swoosh-about with a lightsaber, we have the Pod Racing game (which is always fun) and a new Godzilla style Rancor mode where you wreak havoc on everything in sight in a town, eat people, throw people and just generally go mad. The game still needs a lot of work before it’s going to be ready and there is a real chance it may turn out to be the worst Star Wars game since Yoda Stories. But it is showing more promise. Here’s hoping (as we are all Star Wars fans at heart aren’t we) that we get something worth our time… and the cost of the new R2-D2 style beeping Xbox.
That just about sums up our list, there's some other corkers incoming but we have to say that these are categorically our most looked forward to Kinect titles.
