DICE Executive Producer, Patrick Bach: “There is no difference between PC and console anymore”
When we managed to catch a word with DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach about Battlefield 3 we asked him what they'd learnt while making the game and he had a very interesting answer for us.
XG247 (Sam Clay): "This game has been in development for a few years, what have you learnt over the process of developing it?"
Patrick Bach: "I think one of the biggest lessons we learned was that there is no difference between PC and console anymore. If you're a hardcore gamer, you're a hardcore gamer; you can't divide people into your console players and PC players. All the hardcore features that we used to have as PC specific are now in the console game and PC players are more picky when it comes to quality, they do not accept bugs and stuff like that so the quality you previously got from console games needs to be in the PC games as well so the quality is the same across all platforms, hardcore is hardcore, same on all platforms."
This is certainly one way of looking at things as most trailers we've been watching have been of crazy high spec PC's and reviews that have been trickling suggest the PC version is superior. As the current gen consoles drift ever closer to the end of their life span and with 3D and super high graphics, PC's are really becoming something special. Will there ever be a difference between PC and console?
