Chet Faliszek: “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is about making the best version of Counter-Strike we can”

Incase you've haven't been counting, our specialized team of 'counters' can tell you that it has been a "long time" since the release of Counter Stike: Source (and there paid for this information? Pfhhh). Well, what we're trying to say is that the upcoming Counter Strike Global Offensive is currently in the making, and some of you guys (our readers), may just be interested to know what the product's goal is.

Is it to make it a high-def Counter Strike? Or is it to add new features? Well...

...When we recently interviewed Chet Faliszek, writer on CS:GO, we asked him whether CS:GO is a new game or if it's just an up-rezzed CS:S.

XG247 (Sam Clay): Is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive about making a new game or is it about up-rezzing Source?

Chet Faliszek: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is about making the best version of Counter-Strike we can. One of the things we’ve seen is that it’s hard for some new players to get into it because graphically it looks dated. We want to update that and have it be the best looking Source game we’ve ever released. While we do that we want to add a little of what 1.6 had with like the wall spamming and some other stuff where there was some nuances where really good players could show off how really good theey were. The problem with doing that in CS: Source was that if you did that, you penalised the really new players because they’re not gonna know about these things so what we’ve added is skill based match making so you don’t get super-great players stomping all over new players, they’ll be evenly matched against other super-great players. The fun thing with CounterStrike is that it has such a huge player base so that matchmaking works really smoothly.

This is awesome, the last thing we wanted was an HD remake of CS:S, CS:GO seems like it's going to be an excellent game in its own right.
