SSX’s new Survive It mode explained
By now you know that the Rival system from SSX Tricky has been changed for SSX and you've read about the weird and wonderful Wingsuit addition, but have you read about the new Survive It mode? Thought not. We've got you covered.
When we last got a chance with SSX's Creative Director, Todd Batty, we asked him about the brand spanking new Survive It mode.
XG247 (Sam Clay): These new Survive It events, are you on your own?
Todd Batty: Yes. We needed a way for people to have a leaderboard, if it’s just make it to the bottom alive there’s not a lot of replayability as other people can do that too and it’s hard to see who was better. With Survive It events we just shuttle you back up to the top when you reach the bottom and keep a running total of the distance you’ve travelled. Really good players can make it 3 or 4 times down before they eventually die.
We also found that with Survive It tracks it’s really fun to race them and to go for Trick score so in explored and global events there are drops on the mountain and if it was a Survival track, often we give you a trick drop and a race drop so that you can actually play that same track with the same things, the avalanche or whatever it may be and you can play it head to head for speed or trick points.
We know and love SSX for its tricks and its racing, but this addition seems logical considering the step SSX is taking away from tamer tracks to wild mountains.
