Pachter: “No new Microsoft Console until 2014.”
Michael Pachter, Wedbush Securities and slight gamer icon, spoke to Industry Gamers on how the rumours of a new Xbox arriveing in 2012 were "plain silly." However, the analyst does believe we'll see a new Xbox 360 console by holiday 2012.
Last wee, we reported on how unnamed sources had spoke of developers receiving new Microsoft test boxes, suggesting a brand new console in 2012. However, Pacther believes "Those rumours are silly", stating that Microsoft would not replace the Xbox 360 "until sales begin to slow".
I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8. I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard also stated that "consumers are happy" with current hardware and he doesn't expect PS4 or Xbox 720 before 2014.
