Sledgehammer Games hiring for new Call of Duty game

Sledgehammer Games are hiring for what appears to be a new entry for the Call of Duty franchise.

The developers were drafted into the main Modern Warfare team to help with the multiplayer development. The job listing for "senior online engineer" seems to be in a similar vein.

We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty development team.

Sledgehammer Games is looking for an exceptional online engineer to help bring our online experience to a new level. The candidate will be involved in the creation of multiplayer game modes and online community features for an unannounced high-end console title.

Sledgehammer were working on a third person CoD title before joining the Modern Warfare 3 team, general manager Glen Schofield said the third person game had probably been cancelled, adding:

I think that we will work alone on our next project. [Modern Warfare 3] has allowed both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to hire, and we hired really strong teams, both of us. We needed to come together on this one, but since then we've both grown, we're both over 100 people now.

Initially we weren't fully functional because we had to learn a new engine. Now we have, I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that's a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty.

No other news on whether it's a brand new Call of Duty title, a multiplayer only version, or something inbetween.
