CES: Microsoft’s bumper 2011, 2012 domination plans.
Microsoft announced a record-breaking consumer response for Xbox 360 and Kinect, as well as more unique entertainment experiences on the console and Kinect for PC.
Xbox 360 was the top selling console in North America for 2011, with more than 66 million Xboxes and 40 million Xbox LIVE members world wide Kinect has sold over 18 million units since launch, with almost 800, 000 units being sold in the US Black Friday alone.
Microsoft also showed how Kinect and TV entertainment providers deliver more experiences on the 360. Channel 4OD and 5 On Demand came to LIVE in December with more to come. Over 50 active and announced partnerships worldwide and more TV on demand, the console seems to be seeping ever more into an all round entertainment box.
Microsoft also announced the Kinect for Windows commercial program. Launching on the 1st February 2012, the commercial program will hopefully see the Kinect hardware in education, healthcare, manufacturing and science. Over 200 innovation leaders including United Health Group, American Express, Mattel, Telefonica and Toyota are looking into using Kinect.
Looks like we're set to see Kinect all over the place this year. The singularity is well on it's way.
