Rumour: UFC Franchise to stick to a 2 year development cycle
Well, atleast the developers would prefer that
The world of sport has always been a yearly 'subscription' for video game sports fans (a serious amount of 's' there, although it sounds right, at least whilst typing this). At least it is for the EA Sports franchise as well as numerous others, Basketball...errr... and F1 by this point? Well, you get the idea.
Yukes took an extra year out to develop UFC Undisputed 3, and with that time they say that they've been able to make the game a lot better as well as stride towards making bigger improvements between versions.
So they like that tactic ay? Plan to stay that way? We let Sean Cleaver loose on them at a recent UFC 3 event. Thankfully he wasn't just in his fighting gear.
XG247 (Sean Cleaver): You've had the year out to work on UFC 3, how would you feel about going back to a yearly cycle, or would you like to stay with your new-found 2 year development period?
Wes Bunn (Senior Designer, UFC Undisputed 3): Well obviously we have the game as a yearly release for 2009 to 2010 and obviously we've had the 2 years to do UFC3, it allowed us to do a lot more. I think moving forward in the future the schedule may stay the same, it's not my call but have the extra time allows us to do a lot more. I wouldn't be opposed to it. I would like to see it stay at this two-year schedule because you just don't have as much time with a yearly release.
Shapow, looks like UFC may remain in this 2 year process. Now lets hope WWE does the same?
