Notch to recieve special video games BAFTA award
The creator and mastermind behind Minecraft, Notch, will be receiving a special BAFTA award on Friday March 16.
Notch, or to use his real name, Marcus Persson, cut his teeth by working at king.com and jAlbum, where he helped developed the games Funny Farm, Luxor and Carnival Shootout.
After leaving, Marcus went about designing, creating and releasing the alpha version of Minecraft. The game immediately went viral, with Notch continuing to build the game and release updates. He eventually founded the company Mojang Specifications.
The award will honour Marcus for his individual creative contribution to the industry, who has said, "When I first heard that I would receive a BAFTA Special Award, I was blown away and deeply humbled."
Minecraft currently has over sixteen million registered users and has so far amassed $62 million in revenue
