"Since its release in 2004, World of Warcraft has dominated the MMO genre. With its latest expansion, Mists of Pandaria set for release on September 25th, it’s still leading the market with over 9 million subscribers. It’s success has not gone unnoticed by other companies, who have tried repeatedly to copy and improve on Blizzard’s formula, with mixed results. Why? Because despite the enormous development costs, a subscription based payment system, deep and involving character progression and challenging content in a co-operative setting can be a recipe for profit..."
