Modern Warfare 2 Review – “This is Modern Warfare”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Review

India Whiskey, do we have clearance? India Whiskey do you copy? INDIA WHISKEY…??

Yes that was me last night shouting at myself for spilling Indian Whiskey down the sink, what a bummer! As for this Modern Warfare 2 game it’s an absolute blast! Quite literally in some places.

Infinity Ward has arrived 2 years later on to deliver their next game into the Call of Duty Series. Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated game of this century – it drowns the Halo series with it’s sweat! That’s obviously not to say that the game smells bad, it’s more like it already has the Lynx affect built in.

Story – 8

The story takes place 5 years after the happenings of the original Modern Warfare. The game actually starts with a montage of all the key moments of the last game, just to make yourself feel slightly emotionally attached to something even if you didn’t actually play the original. For the user who didn’t pick up the first (Firstly: Why? Didn’t you listen to us?) you may feel a little left out. Names get thrown past you of naughty people who should be put away behind bars or even shot (Maybe they have been already?). All these key names mean nothing to someone who didn’t play the original single-player game and sadly it feels like a big loss for them.

The story kicks in that (In simple terms): Russia annoys America, America slaps Russia and then Russia invades! I genuinely felt utterly confused with what was going on, although to be fair I couldn’t care less because the presentation of the game is just outstanding. The only point in which I cared about something was towards the end of the game which obviously was a little to late.

Gameplay – 10

Right here we go, firstly you’ve just seen the score above and probably said out loud: “Really?” well yes, really!

This game is just mind boggling for any player. There is no point me going on for 300 words trying to tell you all the details (That’s why there is a video review also!) it’s just a must play this side of the 21st century! I’m actually yelling out right now, Public Service Announcement: Do not miss out on playing this game!

The gameplay is largely cinematic and makes you feel as though you are apart of a fully blown action film, which obviously in some cases may not be for some. All the dialog through the story really does get you sucked into the shoes of your character and how you would actually go about being sneaky under covert operations (shh.. keep it down in there!)

Graphics – 9

The games graphics are on par with most sequences in the most recent Uncharted 2 release on the PS3 and the best thing is, this game is multi-platform!

Everything that needs to be in focus of the eyes of the player has had the attention of some rather amazing game artists. Although most may take the looks for granted when starting up the game it will only take you a few hours to notice some rather breath taking scenes. The best include: Trampling snow effects, Helicopter crashes, Machine gun fire damage, Space Centre explosion and my personal favourite, the White House’s storm scene.

If the artist of the game is reading this review please could you contact as I need to shake your hand and buy you few a beers!

Multiplayer – 10

Yet again Infinity Ward has really pulled out all the stops, they really know how to steal your life and turn your 10min matches into 8 hour gaming sessions! Usually I would send off a letter asking for my life’s hours back but actually I send off a letter asking if I can have the multiplayer experience injected into my eyeballs! Expect to see fan favourites return such as Shipment! Excellent I shout!

Nice new kill streaks and perks really do shake the game up. They have made the kill streaks more of a game changing factor, especially with the new 25 kill-streak tactical nuke which will simply end the game in your favour, as well as burning your retinas!

An additional multiplayer game mode includes the brand new Spec-Ops mode, which is basically like an online multiplayer campaign. You gain gold stars for playing certain missions on the certain difficulties; these stars unlock more missions etc. Nicely Done!

Category: First Person Shooter
Age: BBFC rated 18 Years and above
Publisher: Activision

Good Headshots

  1. Story Presentation is Mind-blowing.
  2. New Weapons rack up the explosions
  3. Multiplayer improved 10 fold.

Bad Misses

  1. Story is a little confusing to start off with.
  2. You need to complete the first one.
  3. It’s hard to name 3 bad points.

Overall then

Modern Warfare 2 has just destroyed the benchmark of what FPS’s should aim to be (Pun intended). It’s honestly one of the best experiences we have had for a long long time. If you had lost faith in First Person Shooters this is the time to return to the spotlight. It’s not often we score something a 10 out of 10!
