Tritton Detonator Xbox 360 Headset Review

I've been told that the Detonator headset from Tritton is one of the best headphones on the market for the Xbox 360. I've also heard that Tritton products are all high quality, but until now I haven't had the chance to try them out.

It turns out what I was told was right. From when I first put them on to when I took them off I found myself heavily immersed in the game I was playing. Every sound is crystal clear, I noticed I was hearing subtle effects I wasn't hearing before and I found a brand new appreciation for the soundtrack in many of my games once I heard them through the Detonator headphones. One of the ways that these sounds are made perfect is that there is no need to worry about outside noise distracting you either, thanks to the thick ear pads which block out pretty much all of the background noise.

Tritton know comfort, that’s for sure. The Detonator’s are really comfy to wear for long periods of time. The ear pads fit around your ear snugly and unlike some headsets, they don’t get too hot or annoying to wear after more than an hour. I didn't find myself being forced to sit outside of my comfy old gaming seat wither as the wire which connects the Detonator to your TV is fourteen feet long, meaning you can sit as far back from your screen as you wish. Unless you wish to sit 15 feet away, but who does that?

The microphone which comes with the Detonator headphones is detachable, which is nice as it means you don’t have to constantly have it in front of your mouth when you’re just playing singleplayer. But when you are in multiplayer your voice will be clear to your teammates while cancelling out any background noise, so it won’t sound like you’re standing inside a wind tunnel while playing. You can even adjust the volume of your own voice and mute yourself if you feel the need.

If there is one bad thing to say about the Detonator headphones, it would be that there are a lot of wires to contend with. There are wires for your 360, wires for your TV and wires for your controller, making quite a lot of mess. However, this isn't a major problem at all, and will not affect the quality experience that you will have while using the Detonator headset from Tritton.  If you’re on the lookout for a new headset and can afford the price tag, look no further.

Bonus round: the Detonator can be plugged into your MP3, so you can show off your Tritton headgear to other people, but with minimal exterior sound getting in, you're going to want to check the road extra carefully before you cross.

The Pros

  • Great quality for the price.
  • External sound almost completely blocked out.
  • Comfortable for long periods.

The Cons

  • At times the wires can become pretty messy.
  • It's definitely the runt of the litter from Tritton, if you can afford the extra cash, upgrade to a better Tritton headset.
